Good morning,

I've got something special to share with you this week.

Next Friday, August 14, I'll be releasing my new single:

🎸 "Souled On Slide"

But since you're part of this newsletter, I thought you should get a little taste of it before everyone else.

I've put together a 50-second video clip where you can hear part of the new song—and you'll also get to see me playing the steel guitar parts that helped give the track its sound.

"You're hearing this before the full song is released next Friday. Hit reply after you watch it and tell me what you think of that steel guitar!”

Why "Souled On Slide"?

There's something about slide guitar that has always spoken to me.

A slide can make a guitar sing, cry, growl, and sometimes say things that words simply can't.

With "Souled On Slide," I wanted the steel guitar to be more than something sitting in the background. I wanted it to have a voice of its own and become part of the personality of the song.

That's one of the things I love about making music. You can start with an idea or a riff, but somewhere along the way the instruments begin telling you where the song wants to go.

And sometimes you've just got to follow them.

From The Guitar Rack 🎸

This week's featured instrument isn't hanging on the rack—it's sitting horizontally in front of me.

The steel guitar.

If you've never watched someone play one up close, check out the video. You'll be able to see some of what I'm doing while you're hearing it in the track.

It's a very different experience from playing a regular guitar, and that's part of what makes its sound so distinctive.

Coming Friday, August 14

"Souled On Slide" – Ron Turner

The full song will be available next Friday on all streaming platforms.

For now, my newsletter friends get the preview.

And when you watch it, I'd really like to know what you think.

Hit Reply and tell me:

🎸 What do you think of the steel guitar sound?

I always enjoy hearing from you.

Thanks for listening, watching, and supporting independent music. Having people out there who are interested in not only the songs but also how they're made makes this journey a whole lot more enjoyable.

Until next Saturday...

Keep the music playing—and keep it Souled On Slide.
